The Importance of Mobile Digital Marketing

With the recent huge upswing in users search the Internet on handheld devices such as mobile phones, and more recently, Tablet PCs, the top companies have had to take a look at innovative methods of digital marketing in order to take advantage of this new opportunity. Options open to mobile marketers increased massively in recent years, allowing in particular the emergence of touch screen technology powered by the massively popular iPhone and the technology used in the past on unheard of, marketing technology to come to the fore.

Due to the speed at which this technology is developed, there is currently no advertising ‘ rule book ‘ from which companies can base a campaign, so it has led to a series of clever and innovative methods of some of the worlds top brands to take the lead in this field.

Dominance of social media, Facebook in particular has led companies to find new ways to get the consumer to choose or a ‘ similar ‘ their page in order to provide them with a communication channel through which they can engage with their target audience on a regular (and cost-effective) basis. Fashion brand Diesel has pioneered an interesting way to acquire Facebook fans, using QR codes in the store in the products and offer discounts to those who scan the code and ‘ like ‘ product. On paper, this is a very good idea, it will benefit consumers by reducing the cost of their purchase and favour Diesel by letting them free advertising to users friends and family.

Move away from Facebook, GranataPet in Germany has made use of the program popular Foursquare when promoting dry dog food. They released a series of placards with assignment trays on the floor, and when a user checked Foursquare to magazine billboard needs a free trial of the product. Burst looks set to be used in a number of innovative campaigns in the future as companies come to life the potential of location monitoring app.

Another area still in its infancy, but who would like to become a prominent technology is the mobile payment facility to pay for products and services using only your mobile phone. Starbucks has been one of the first to take on this technology allows users to buy coffee through its iPhone application. There are companies looking to trial a new system that will allow the phones to work in a similar way to payment cards, with the handset will be held to a terminal payment and the money will be withdrawn automatically from your account users. Again this is in its infancy so can it some time before it becomes commonplace, but the initial signs are encouraging that it could be adopted as a viable method of payment.

It is an exciting time for the digital marketing world, and there should be a lot more innovative and unique campaigns to look forward to in the near future.
